Imago Mundi - Art Theorema #1 Highlights
Imago Mundi Highlights is a global contemporary art initiative supported by the Benetton Foundation and Fabrica, developed within the broader framework of the Imago Mundi collection—the first truly global project in contemporary art. Since its inception, Imago Mundi has aimed to map the contemporary art landscape with encyclopaedic ambition, assembling a collection of works by over 20,000 artists from more than 140 countries and regions across all continents.
Launched in 2017, Imago Mundi Highlights represents a new, ongoing chapter in this ambitious vision. Unlike earlier editions, which focused on national selections, this project offers a transnational perspective, identifying both established and emerging artists whose practices reflect the evolving dynamics of the contemporary art world over the last decade. Selected by an international board of curators, gallerists, and art advisors, around 200 artists—typically one or two per country—are invited annually to contribute to this evolving collection.
The board reviewed Tanti’s artistic profile and selected him to participate in Imago Mundi Highlights as one of Malta’s most innovative and experimental contemporary artists. His recent body of work—situated at the intersection of painting and digital art—stood out for its conceptual depth and formal originality. His inclusion contributes a distinctive voice to the project’s broader mission of capturing the shifting contours of global contemporary practice.
The project emphasizes innovation, global dialogue, and the impact of new media on contemporary visual culture. Featured artists are showcased in major international exhibitions, biennials, and art fairs. The inaugural presentation of Imago Mundi Highlights 2017 coincided with the opening of the Imago Mundi Museum in Treviso, Italy, housed in a restored historic prison and serving as the permanent home for the collection when not on international tour.
Among those selected are renowned figures such as Christo, Hermann Nitsch, Zaha Hadid, and Vito Acconci—alongside cutting-edge voices from across the globe.
